where are the men?

My dad left when I was like 3. So I grew up without one. People say that causes personality issues.

At work, most of my friends talk about their families during lunch or in the hallways, you know, whenever they have a chance.

Most of them successful job holding friends who grew up with a dad.

Yet, I hardly find another fatherless professional in my job surroundings. Which, is great for them, it's just that growing up without a father shapes you into a different person from them, somehow. There's a feeling of disconnect many times...

I think only the fatherless could understand this feeling. Any fatherless out there who has had this feeling of disconnect?

  1. what grew out of a fatherless child is a deep thinking, marvelously talented, but otherwise yet disconnected woman. you cannot find connections with those who also walked in your shoes, because they do not share your father. the choice of your father is the isolated choice he made. This is different from the 20,000,000 others who lived like you, but could not live as you. the answers to your understanding lie with him. you cannot find it from a "kinship" with someone who also lost a father early, because each person lost a distinct "piece" of themselves in their own world, as you did with yours. you can see what others have. you can want to add your own conversation to theirs, but think of it like you are in a group of scientists, and your expertise is astronomy, and the conversation is about physics. you might not have a connection with physics, but that doesn't mean you are ANY LESS. you are just as good as the physicists, just that at that moment, you can't add much to the conversation. Eventually there will be talk of astronomy, and you're talent will shine. you've done great things as a teacher, mother, and WOMAN. It's your father who should feel the disconnect, because he missed the amazingness that is YOU. Continue to be exactly who you are, and leave the girl who was fatherless behind, and discover what the mother with children has the power to be. But that's just my opinion. One MANS opinion, because this one MAN cares about you.
